Teaching Sequence Counts
Key Overarching Enquiry – provides the context for learning for the duration of the topic. This question is deliberately difficult to answer initially, but by the end of the Sequence of Learning children will be able to draw upon a wealth of knowledge to develop their own detailed responses.
Subsidiary Questions – subsidiary questions break the key overarching enquiry into manageable chunks of learning. This means teaching content knowledge remains focused and children feel a sense of progression as they work towards answering the key enquiry question.
Learning Outcomes – this is a suggested key takeaway for each Episode of Learning that directly contributes towards children’s ability to answer the overarching enquiry question.
Assessment - whilst assessment should be focused on the skills and knowledge pertinent to the subject discipline, each sequence of learning has suggested assessment opportunities that utilise writing skills from previous units of work.
Ready Steady Curriculum overviews support teachers and leaders by providing:
Learning that is structured through an overarching enquiry question.
Clear, sequential, knowledge-rich outcomes that are delivered through subsidiary enquiry questions
A curriculum rationale for each unit of work, explaining how it fits into the ‘big picture’.
Suggested pre-reading to support teacher subject knowledge
Carefully chosen technical vocabulary linked to learning from our Ready Steady Write and Ready Steady Comprehension units of work
Suggested wider reading for a Reading Rich Curriculum
Suggested assessment activities linked to high-quality writing outcomes
