Confidently Support Children’s Writing: Practical Strategies for Teaching Assistants

Primary Teaching Assistant supporting writing development in the classroom – CPD training based on Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) guidance for effective TA deployment

Teaching Assistants play a crucial role in helping children become successful, confident writers. This training is designed to empower TAs with effective, research-informed strategies to support writing development in the classroom.

Drawing on the latest guidance from the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF), the session will provide clear, manageable approaches that can make a real difference — from encouraging reluctant writers to building sentence accuracy and independence.

By the end of the course, participants will:

  • Understand how writing develops and recognise common barriers

  • Learn how to model writing effectively and promote sentence accuracy

  • Use scaffolding techniques to build children’s independence

  • Confidently support the class teacher with shared writing

  • Give effective feedback and use questioning to guide progress

Join us to gain practical tools that will strengthen your support for young writers and boost their success in the classroom.
